Our Story

How it’s Made

Every resin piece in the shop is made in our studio in Wales, by hand, usually a few at a time. Here’s what actually happens between an idea and the parcel.

It starts as a liquid

Resin comes as two clear liquids. Measured and mixed together, they slowly turn from liquid to glass-hard over a couple of days, and everything about the finished piece is decided in the first hour, while it still moves.

That’s when the colour goes in. Pigments, inks, sometimes a metallic or a little gold leaf, blended until it’s right. Then it goes into the mould, and the shapes and swirls you see in the finished piece are made in those few minutes. A nudge here, a drag there, then hands off. Resin has its own opinions about where colours drift, which is why no two pieces ever come out the same. We can make the same colours meet twice; we can’t make them dance the same way twice.

The slow part

A warm pass over the surface brings up the air bubbles, and then the piece just needs leaving alone. Somewhere warm, level and dust-free, overnight at least before it comes out of the mould, and days more before it’s fully hard.

This is why made-to-order pieces have a lead time. The making is quick; the waiting isn’t, and it can’t be hurried without spoiling the piece.

Finishing

Out of the mould, every piece gets its edges smoothed and its surfaces checked in daylight. This is where we decide whether a piece is good enough to sell. Most are. The ones that aren’t stay in the studio.

What passes isn’t flawless, handmade resin never is. A tiny bubble caught mid-swirl or a soft shift in colour is part of a piece made this way, and we photograph one-of-one pieces individually so what you see is the piece you get.

Then it’s yours

Each piece is wiped, wrapped and packed by the person who made it. If it’s a gift, the note is written by hand. And if you’d like something made in your colours, the made-to-order pieces are exactly that. Same care, same process, your choices.
