FAQs

Short answers to the things people ask. If your question isn’t here, please contact us.

The pieces

What are they made of?

Resin. It starts as a clear liquid, the colour goes in, and it sets hard and glassy over a few days. Because the colour moves while it sets, no two pieces come out the same. Some pieces have gold leaf, dried flowers or glitter set inside.

Will mine look exactly like the photo?

No, and that’s the point. Colour and pattern vary from piece to piece, screens show colour differently, and resin catches the light in its own way. One-of-one pieces are photographed individually, so what you see is the piece you’ll get. Made-to-order pieces are shown as an example of the style.

I can see a tiny bubble. Is that a fault?

No. A tiny bubble, a faint swirl or a slightly softer edge is what handmade resin looks like. If something’s actually damaged, that’s different, and we’ll sort it. See “Something’s wrong with my order” below.

Can I put a hot mug on a coaster?

Yes, a normal mug of tea or coffee is fine. Give a cup straight out of the microwave a minute first, as it can leave a ring. Trays and dishes aren’t for hot pans or oven dishes.

Can I use a dish for food?

Only if the listing says so. Most pieces are for keys, rings, jewellery, candles in their own holder, and anything cold or dry.

How do I look after it?

Wipe with a soft damp cloth and a drop of washing-up liquid, dry it and put it back. No scourers, no solvents, no dishwasher, no soaking. Keep it out of strong sunlight and away from radiators and hobs: resin softens above about 50°C and a piece that lives on a sunny sill will slowly warm in tone over the years. There’s a longer version on the Caring for resin page.

Ordering

What does “one of one” mean?

There’s only one, made once, and it won’t be repeated. When you add it to your bag it’s held for you for a short time while you check out. If the time runs out, it goes back on sale.

What does “made to order” mean?

It’s made after you order, in the colour and finish you choose. The lead time is on the product page. Because it’s made to your choice, it can’t be cancelled once we’ve started making it.

Can I ask for something specific?

Sometimes. Email with what you have in mind and we’ll say honestly whether it’s something we can do. We don’t take on pieces that need to match a photo exactly.

Do you sell gift cards?

Not yet. If that changes it’ll be on the site and in the studio email.

I have a discount code. Where does it go?

In the bag, tap “Have a discount code?” under your items and enter it there.

Gifts

Can you wrap it?

Yes. Tick “Wrap it as a gift” in the bag. Ivory tissue, pink sticker, no prices anywhere in the parcel. It’s one charge per order however many pieces are wrapped, and if you only want some pieces wrapped, a list appears so you can choose.

Can you include a note?

Yes. Once you’ve ticked gift wrap, a note box appears. We write it by hand on a small card and put it in the parcel exactly as you typed it, so check the spelling.

Can you send it straight to the person it’s for?

Yes. At checkout, tick “Ship to a different address?” and put their name and address there. The parcel goes to them, your confirmation email comes to you, and nothing in the parcel shows the price.

Some of my order is a gift and some is for me. Can you split it?

An order can only go to one address, so the simplest way is two orders: one to you, one gift-wrapped to them. Each is posted separately with its own delivery charge, which is what would happen anyway.

Delivery

How much is delivery?

Standard UK delivery is £3.95, and free on orders of £40 or more. Next-day delivery is £2 on top of that if you order by 1pm, and is only available on ready-to-go pieces. A few postcodes carry a courier surcharge, which is shown before you pay. Whether it is standard or next-day delivery, please allow one working day for it to be dispatched.

When will it arrive?

Ready-to-go pieces are posted within two working days. Made-to-order pieces are posted once they’re made, within the lead time on the product page. Once it’s posted you’ll get an email to say so.

Do you post outside the UK?

Not yet. If you’re overseas and want something, email us and we’ll see what’s possible.

My parcel hasn’t turned up.

Check with neighbours and anywhere a parcel might have been left first. If it’s been five working days since dispatch and there’s no sign, email us and we’ll chase it.

Returns

Can I return something?

Yes, for most things. Email within 14 days of receiving it to say you’d like to return it, then, once we have provided you with a returns code, send it back within 14 days of that. You pay the return postage, and we refund the piece and your original standard delivery once it’s back. Made-to-order pieces can’t be returned once we’ve started making them, and gift notes and personalised items can’t be returned. The full version is on the Delivery and Returns page and in our Terms of sale.

Something’s wrong with my order.

Email within 2 days with a photo. If it’s damaged or faulty we’ll replace it if we can, or refund you in full including return postage. Normal handmade variation, and damage from heat, sun, solvents or a dishwasher, isn’t covered.

How do I get my refund?

To the card you paid with, within 14 days of us receiving the return.

Account and email

Do I need an account?

No. You can check out as a guest. An account lets you see past orders and saves your address for next time; you can create one at checkout or from the account icon in the header.

What’s the studio email?

New pieces before they go on the site, and not every week, only when there’s something worth saying. Sign up in the box at the bottom of any page or tick the box at checkout. Every email has an unsubscribe link.

Anything else

Do you do wholesale, or stock shops?

Not at the moment.

How do I get in touch?

Your can email us on hello@caitlinslittlestudio.co.uk, or use the contact form.  We reply within one working day, Monday to Friday.
